File-AID Software

Compuware's File-AID is the industry standard file and data management software for the IBM mainframe environment. File-AID/MVS provides ISPF-like access to datasets and multiple record layouts within an XREF. In conjunction with providing the capability to customize data to operational requirements, File-AID also enhances the reliability of data in a production system.

The role and advantages associated with File-AID are:

• Simplifying test data creation and assisting in routine functions.
• Ensuring that test conditions are met through the selection of precise data based upon field content.
• Customizing data for a particular application and specific conditions.
• Data editing with file types independent of the record length or format.
• Automatic comparison of two data files or objects.

Few independent training companies offer the range and multiple levels of specialized and interrelated mainframe programmer productivity tools and development utilities courses that we do. SYS-ED staff and CETi Technology Partners are experts on the File-AID family of products and average 30 years in coding, debugging, and maintaining mainframe legacy programming languages and system software. This been there done that experience provides us with the privileged paerspective from which to teach the industry standard File-AID facilities and provide invaluable performance and troubleshooting guidelines. What distinguishes the SYS-ED training service is the ability to provide guidelines specific to a client’s legacy programming language: COBOL, Assembler, PL/1, and REXX.

Students will not just learn how to perform specific File-AID tasks; but also will receive a foundation in the underlying mainframe system software: VSAM, CICS, DB2, and IMS. And if your installation is utilizing a combination of mainframe utilities and development tools from the Big 3: Computer Associates, Compuware, and IBM, then SYS-ED's integrated workshops and examples will be make a major difference in training staff.

As part of qualifying a mainframe utilities and development tools training assignment, SYS-ED will review installation standards: the JCL, streams of data, and production documentation. Walkthroughs, examples, and exercises are selected from the CETi courseware library or tailored to client-specific operation requirements.

SYS-ED does not sell software; we only teach! And towards this end, we apply the full complement of training medium to help information and business professionals professionals learn. In our courses, students learn by doing; one-third of their class time will be spent hands-on with File-AID on our z/OS system. Each student receives a comprehensive course handout and tailored training aids. Students are welcome to ask the inevitable questions which come up back on the job.

Upon completion of a SYS-ED instructor-led course at the client location, it is standard policy to organize content for future utilization in a web-based training infrastructure.

Courseware for Teaching

The Computer Education Techniques courseware used in SYS-ED courses consists of student hand-outs, training aids, and industry-specific exercises. The CETi knowledge base aggregates and analyzes information in the public domain. It also is a service for reviewing and answering questions. Content is selectively added to courseware. The long-term strategy is to have our courseware recognized as a NRV: Nationally Recognized Vendor.

We draw upon our extensive library of courseware, sample programs, and case studies to explain, demonstrate, and teach the real-world mainframe information technology. Our mainframe curricula include industry standard and consultancy derived content. We have the capability to provide tailored workshops and integrated training programs on z/OS, z/VSE, z/VM, and third party emulation workbench/platforms.

Most computer training companies are divisions of large software companies or consulting companies. Not SYS-ED. Our only goal is to provide world class mainframe training for motivated IT professionals - no more and no less. Because we're independent, we're free to concentrate on teaching - and since 1980 we have been doing it very well.

Enrollment - SYS-ED Mainframe Courses are NOT for Everyone
No one is allowed to enroll in a SYS-ED mainframe course, without a consultation with our Director of Education. We review the operational objectives and project specifications for the organization evaluating whether to send its employee for the training. The employee is only allowed to register if they have the background corresponding to the appropriate learning path.

SYS-ED mainframe courses are held at our training center in New York City and in conjunction Technology Partners in North America and Europe. If you prefer, we'll arrange tailored mainframe training on-site at your organization’s facilities inclusive of mobile computer classroom set-up.
