| Oracle Roadmap for Web Server Convergence and Service Oriented Architecture | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Oracle Acquisition of Sun
Microsystems In 2009, Oracle Corporation acquired Sun Microsystems hardware and software businesses. Historically, Oracle's primary competition in the corporate database market has been IBM's DB2 and more recently to a lesser extent Microsoft SQL Server. Oracle has now entered the computer hardware business and will be competing with Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Dell, and Cisco Systems in order to be an end-to-end service provider. Executives at Oracle Corporation have been outspoken in their goal of expanding its business operations from a $26.8 billion base in 2009 into a 100 billion business. Oracle Corporation has been acquiring technologies and increasing targeted software market share. Significant changes in the Oracle product line are being implemented. Oracle has been developing its Fusion software in order to unite the products into a unified software platform: Solaris operating system, Java programming language, and MySQL database. Oracle and WebLogic Software With the acquisition of BEA Systems software Oracle Corporation now has two Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition Application Servers: OAS: Oracle Application Server and WLS: WebLogic Server. These web servers provide standards compliance, enterprise-grade security, clustering, deployment, and management services. Oracle Application Server was designed for developing, integrating, and deploying enterprise applications, portals, and web services. The core of the Oracle Application Server consists of the Oracle HTTP Server and OC4J: Oracle Containers for Java EE which deploys J2EE-based applications and is J2EE 1.4-compliant. It was optimized for integration into the Oracle database security capabilities and grid computing. OAS no longer will be the strategic application server for Oracle Corporation; it is being maintained for customers while its functionality is being converged with WebLogic Server. Oracle Application Server is part of the Oracle Fusion Middleware stack and is available in two editions:
The BEA WLS: WebLogic Server was brought to market in 1998. With the acquisition of BEA Systems by Oracle Corporation, WLS has been rebranded as Oracle WebLogic Application Server. Oracle's stated strategy is to make WebLogic Server its preferred application server. The server is build upon a Java J2EE and EJB foundation and features web services and SOA support along with administration, operations, and management capabilities for reducing operational costs and increasing uptime. There are four editions of WLS:
Complementary components from Oracle Application Server along with WebLogic Operations Control from BEA and Coherence from Tangosol also will be integrated into WebLogic Server. Oracle acquired Tangosol for its software that increases application performance by providing fast, distributed access to frequently used data. Tangosol's product,Coherence Data Grid, is an enabler for the rapidly growing use of XTP: Extreme Transaction Processing in financial services, telecommunications, travel, and logistics industries. In order to realize a level of AIV: Application Infrastructure Virtualization from Oracle and BEA software from multiple vendors must be deployed together: VMware ESX Server, MS Windows or Linux operating system, LiquidVM, BEA WLS Virtual Education, and Oracle WebLogic Operations Control. The challenge for Oracle’s customers will be managing differing application server environments then migrating to a standardized platform. SYS-ED's system consultants have been monitoring the technical issues of both platforms as Oracle undertakes the product changes and commences the migration for its installed base of clients. Oracle Corporation will be providing maintenance for current Oracle Application Server 10g customers during the convergence of functionality with the WebLogic Server. Computer Education Techniques Technology Partners have been evaluating benchmarks and assessing Oracle Corporation's efforts to make its existing product line work with commercial WebLogic and FOSS: Free Open Source Freeware: Solaris operating system, Java, and MySQL software. Modernizing Legacy Application Infrastructures SOA: Service Oriented Architecture incorporates an established set of practices which is becoming increasingly mainstream. An enormous number of steps will be required to prepare for and navigate the process of converting to SOA. SYS-ED staff has been evaluating Oracle Corporation white papers on application modernization and comparing it to the experience of Computer Education Techniques Technology Partners. An efficient implementation will: 1- Incrementally be adopted. 2- Incorporate legacy systems into the new architecture. 3- Use an existing unified, consistent, and flexible architecture. 4- Use a scalable governance model. SYS-ED's longstanding 30+ years experience with IBM’s system software CICS Transaction Server and first generation 25+ years experience with Oracle database software provides us with a privileged perspective from which to demonstrate and teach platform migration. Oracle Educational Consultancy Oracle Tuxedo provides a standalone environment, which when utilized in conjunction with an Oracle WebLogic Server, provides an equivalent set of CICS APIs along with facilities and featureset to mainframe applications. Oracle Tuxedo applications can participate in SOA architectures, be reengineered, and developed into composite applications. It is standard policy for SYS-ED to tailor our Oracle training programs to include SOA subject matter, project specifications, and client specific exercises. We refer to this premium training service as educational consultancy. SYS-ED Approach to Oracle Training SYS-ED’s Oracle course offerings and training programs reflect 20+ years and first generation experience with Oracle and WebLogic. It is our standard operating procedure to tailor the content, examples, exercises, and courseware in order to explain and demonstrate:
Upon completion of a SYS-ED instructor-led course at the client location, it is standard policy to organize content for future utilization in a web-based training infrastructure. Students are welcome to ask questions back on the job. |

| Why SYS-ED for Oracle Training? | ||||||||||||||||||||
|
| Evolving IT - Interrelated Technologies Information technology training is more complex and challenging than ever before. Organizational enterprise has a substantial investment in infrastructure and applications specific to their operations. There are new industry standard protocols, web server and web enabled technologies, and development platforms which require a combination of development from scratch and integration with the existing system software and enterprise databases. There are long term implications regarding the strategic mix of commercial and open source software which is selected. Decisions have to be made on whether to maintain and upgrade the existing legacy applications, while retrofitting and transitioning to the new technologies. SYS-ED trained a significant portion of the first generation of DP personnel. And looks forward to training their IT successors in the 21st century.

Teaching is
Our Business
Most computer training companies are divisions of large software or consulting
companies. Not SYS-ED. Our only goal is to provide top-quality computer training
for highly motivated professionals-no more and no less. Because
we're independent,
we're free to concentrate on teaching - and since 1980 we have been doing it
very well.
Our Teachers Know How to Teach
SYS-ED instructors
combine teaching skills with broad practical experience as consultants. Our
system consultants have been working with Oracle since its initial release. We teach not only "how to", but "why",
offering insights into the subject matter. After a course,
we
answer
student questions back on the job.
Enrollment - SYS-ED
Oracle Courses are NOT for Everyone
No one is allowed to enroll in a SYS-ED Oracle course, without a consultation
with our Director of Education. We review the operational objectives and
project specifications for the organization evaluating whether to send its
employee for the training. The employee is ONLY allowed to register if they
have the background corresponding to the
appropriate learning path.
