DB2 Training: Why SYS-ED?

SYS-ED and our technology partners have been providing DB2 UDB consultancy services for Fortune 1000 companies, government municipalities, and healthcare providers since its initial release in the 1980’s. Our system consultants are international experts in DB2 application programming, administration, system performance, and web enablement. This hands-on experience has served as a foundation for the compilation of our knowledge base and independent assessment of DB2 documentation. SYS-ED staff have authored DB2 text books and developed DB2 and database courseware and training aids. Our courseware has been developed based upon the standards mandated by the New York State Department of Education; they reflect our interpretation of IBM manuals and red books and are designed to help IT professionals learn DB2.

Equally as important, we are longstanding experts in hybrid operating environments: mainframe - z/OS, z/VSE, and z/VM, UNIX - Linux, Solaris, MS Windows and MS.NET, programming languages - COBOL, Java, and middleware - WebSphere MQ. This expertise provides a privileged perspective from which we explain nuances, challenge IBM guidelines, and much to IBM’s chagrin, point out the glitches with DB2 UDB which do not work as advertised. Once the DB2 training has been completed, we invite client's to submit DB2 questions. And by the way we do get requests from major software and consulting companies to train their clients and staff.

DB2 Training Genre - Identification and Delivery
Consistently effective information technology training requires an accurate recognition of a client's operational objectives and the appropriate extension of the industry standard subject matter. It is our policy to provide examples, sample programs, and exercises which highlight efficient coding and performance design techniques. We refer to it as educational consultancy. We work with a prospective client to identify and differentiate between a course - DB2 UDB: Application Programming and MS Windows.NET ASP.NET and ASP/DB2 Workshops and DB2 UDB: Programming in Java with JDBC as compared to educational consultancy DB2 UDB: Recovery - Advanced and DB2 UDB: System Performance and Tuning with Data Warehousing.

Industry Standard Content Educational Consultancy Migration
These courses teach the topics and skillsets outlined by the source software company and have case studies and workshops which provide experience to perform specific tasks. The subject matter has been selected to address the specific operational objectives of the client organization and will include project specifications and tailored examples and exercises. These courses apply an analysis of the transitional releases of DB2 in relation to the client system software environment and other databases: Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, and MySQL.

A underlying cause for an instructor-led DB2 course falling short in achieving its stated performance objectives occurs when the training vendor has not selected the subject matter and calibrated the examples, case studies, and exercises to the true underlying requirements of the client organization and the ability of the employees to learn. It is our standard operating procedure to provide prospective client's with student profile forms and the option of utilizing pre and post course assessment validation

DB2 Schedule

WebSphere MQ Schedule

Mainframe Schedule

SYS-ED DB2 courses are not open to the general public. Only employees sponsored by Fortune 1000 corporations, government municipalities, healthcare providers, and consulting companies are allowed to enroll in a SYS-ED course and only after a telephone consultation with our Director of Education. This is essential for ensuring that the individual be placed in the course which corresponds to the employer’s operational objectives, operating environment, version of DB2, and development platform. The search engine can be used for researching course titles and topics.

SYS-ED has been conducting courses in the public domain since 1980; however, there have been changes in the laws and regulations governing computer training in the state of New York. The schedule on our websites reflects a projected time frame for licensure with the New York State Department of Education - Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision and submission and approval of curriculum. It will be updated quarterly.

Private Courses: Client Location
SYS-ED teaches private courses in North America and Europe. With private courses, topics can be mixed and matched from multiple course outlines and the workshops tailored. Case in point; several of our fast-track clients have had us conduct accelerated 5-day courses consisting of what is regularly 8 days of subject matter. Private training can be conducted in several delivery formats - classroom, distance-learning, or blended web-based delivery format. Contact our New York office for additional information on the selection of content delivery.

Warranty of Service
SYS-ED will not accept an assignment until our Director of Education confers with the client and reviews the subject matter, examples, and exercises to be included in the course. The agreed upon content will be provided in writing to the client as part of the training contract.

So when it comes to your DB2 UDB training needs, by all means contact IBM and review their course outlines, performance objectives, and courseware. Then visit db2trainingbysysed.us or e-mail us to schedule a complimentary consultation at dshapiro@sysed.com or dsilverberg@sysed.com or call 212-564-9147.

Courseware for Teaching

SYS-ED's courseware library consists of student hand-outs, training aids, documented walkthroughs, and industry-specific exercises. The Computer Education Techniques knowledge base is a service for answering questions, inclusive of the research and validation of the accuracy of information in the public domain. Citation of source documentation and examples are used to provide answers to the questions. Content is selectively added to SYS-ED course hand-outs and training aids.
