Why SYS-ED for UNIX and Linux Training
UNIX and increasingly Linux continue to have an expanded role as a desktop and network operating system, base operating system for database, web servers and middleware, virtual machine to IBM mainframe operating system, and scripting and application development platform. In the 1970's, David Silverberg and David Shapiro were among the initial technologists and programmers who evaluated the UNIX operating system and designed and coded C programs. Silverberg coded C and C++ programs and later taught classes both at AT & T and Bell Laboratories. Shapiro, in conjunction with classmates at Union College and Cornell University, became familiar with the capabilities of early versions of UNIX and the important role of efficient low level programming languages. SYS-ED's UNIX and Linux courses and training programs reflect this experience and multiplatform expertise with open source software.

The SYS-ED curriculum extends industry standard content with the emerging learning paths that teach the UNIX- and Linux- variants:

Web Design - Hybrid Environments

Few software or consulting companies have been providing UNIX and Linux training services longer or better than SYS-ED.

UNIX and Linux Courseware
The foundation of SYS-ED's delivery of UNIX and Linux training has been the development of courseware: student hand-outs, sample programs, skeleton programs, workshops, and training aids. The courseware has been designed to help business professionals, webmasters, and programmers acquire specific operating system and administration skillsets and code and debug scripts and application programs. The collective efforts of our subject matter experts are managed by information technology professionals experienced in authoring text books with graduate degrees in computer science, management, and business administration. The classic principles of adult learning are applied to interpreting and translating subject matter into performance objectives, narrative descriptions and diagrams which present the design, architecture, and program logic of industry- and client-specific examples. The courseware utilizes multiple presentation formats: textual, tabular, diagrammatic, bullet point, and code snippets. SYS-ED's courseware library is incrementally augmented, revised, and maintained. It is highly respected in open source software and hybrid information technology where there is a scarcity of industry standard textbooks and the documentation is less comprehsensive than its commercial software counterpart. For organization’s which have a requirement for its employees to teach UNIX and Linux subject matter or the need to have the content available for presentation through a web-based learning medium, we will tailor and license our courseware.

UNIX, Linux, and Internetworking Training Programs
SYS-ED offers integrated UNIX and Linux training programs in operating system configuration, system administration, performance design, scripting, and application development for Fortune 1000 companies, government municipalities, and healthcare providers.

Component courses of a training program can be incorporated into web server and application development training programs. In conjunction with presenting a private training program at the client location, courseware is organized for utilization in a distance-learning delivery medium. This service is performed free of charge.

Knowledge Base and Submit UNIX and Linux Questions
SYS-ED reviews information in the public domain distributed by international standards committees, purveyors of open source software, and software companies. We perform our own independent analysis and assessments of benchmarks of software updates and new products. Vendor documentation and third party content is interpreted and selectively incorporated into our courseware and training aids. SYS-ED clients are invited to submit UNIX and Linux questions. SYS-ED staff and CETi Technology Partners will answer, explain, and where applicable reference source documentation. Questions are reviewed and answered on a first-come/first serve-basis. This service is available through our categorized and open source websites.

Educational Consultancy and Value Added Service
SYS-ED identifies and differentiates between industry standard content and educational consultancy. We review documented coding standards and then have the client select the examples, sample programs, and exercises from our courseware library. If necessary, we will create new workshops and also provide skeleton programs. At the client discretion, assessment validation can be provided.

Consultation Prior to Accepting a Training Assignment or Enrolling an Employee in a SYS-ED Course
It is standard practice to schedule a telephone consultation with our Director of Education or Curriculum Manager. As part of this process we will review the subject matter, sample programs, workshops, and installation standards and for tailored private training provide a lesson plan. For organizations evaluating whether to utilizing a SYS-ED training service, it is our prerogative to ensure that the employee has the prerequisite background and placed in the appropriate course. Not everyone is allowed to enroll in a SYS-ED course.
