Why SYS-ED for Mainframe Training
When it comes to legacy programming languages, systems software, and web-enabled technologies integrated with IBM mainframe systems - WebSphere MQ, WebSphere Application Server, and Rational, SYS-ED’s credentials in terms of consultancy experience and advanced degrees in many situations will be superior to the employees from the source software companies.
Since 1980,
SYS-ED has been providing
instructor-led mainframe courses and training services to and for major software houses, consulting firms, Fortune 1000 companies, government municipalities, and healthcare providers. Few software or consulting organizations have the skilled personnel
or have been doing mainframe training longer or better than SYS-ED.
Mainframe Courseware
An important component in the delivery of the training was the development of
mainframe courseware: student hand-outs, sample programs, skeleton programs, workshops, and training aids.
Computer Education Techniques courseware incorporates industry standard content and
consultancy derived techniques for coding and debugging applications written in legacy programming languages inclusive of performance design and optimization with IBM system software. The collective efforts
of our subject matter experts, who average 30+ years experience in IBM mainframe technology, are
managed by editors, with multidisciplinary expertise in information technology, text book authoring, and degrees in management and business administration. The classic principles of adult learning are applied to the content, interpreting and translating subject matter
into performance objectives, narrative descriptions, and diagrams which explain the design, program logic and underlying architecture. The courseware has been designed to
utilize a variety of presentation formats: textual, tabular, diagrammatic, bullet point, and code
snippets. The CETi courseware library has been incrementally augmented, revised, and maintained. It is highly valued, especially with legacy mainframe programming languages, where there is a scarcity of up to date text books. At the client discretion,
assessment validation can be provided.
For organization’s that have a requirement for its employees to teach mainframe courses or have the content available for presentation through a
web-based learning medium, SYS-ED will
license
the courseware.
Courseware as Learning Center
SYS-ED mainframe’s courseware has been organized into a learning center. It is a by product of a commitment to excellence and helping information technology professionals learn. The
courseware as a learning center is used in conjunction with teaching mainframe training programs:
It is available for use in an advertising free environment for prospective client organizations to prequalify the employees to be trained and provide remedial instruction. Feedback is used to augment and refine
subject matter into reference documentation for programmatic update and distribution. Additional courseware prepared for utilization in a learning center format
includes: CICS Transaction Server, DB2 and Java, and WebSphere MQ.
Knowledge Base and
Submit Mainframe Questions
SYS-ED reviews information in the public domain distributed by software companies, international standards committees, and purveyors of open source software. We perform our own independent analysis and assessments of
benchmarks for software updates and new products. Vendor documentation and third party content is interpreted and selectively incorporated into courseware and training aids.
Clients are invited to submit mainframe questions. SYS-ED staff and CETi Technology Partners
answer, explain, and where applicable reference source documentation. Questions are answered on a first-come/first serve-basis.
This service is available through SYS-ED categorized and software specific mainframe websites.
Educational Consultancy and Value Added Service
SYS-ED recognizes and differentiates between industry standard content and educational consultancy. The client selects the examples, sample programs, and exercises. When required, courseware will be developed to address client-specific coding
standards. Operating system and system programming courses are taught using a combination of IBM manuals, red books,
and modular extensible courseware, the client selects or designates the walkthroughs, examples, code snippets, and exercises to be included in the courseware. At the
client discretion, SYS-ED will develop presentation slides to be utilized in conjunction with industry standard textbooks.
Consultation Prior to Accepting a Training Assignment or Enrolling an Employee in a SYS-ED Course
It is standard operating procedure to schedule a telephone consultation with our Director of Education. As part of this process we will review the subject matter, sample programs, workshops, and installation
standards and provide a training plan in writing. For organizations evaluating whether to send an employee to a SYS-ED course, we require that a profile form be completed and submitted both by the manager and the employee who will be
trained. It is our prerogative to ensure that the employee has the prerequisite background for the training. Not everyone is allowed to enroll in a SYS-ED course.
New York State Department of Education - Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision
In order to validate the quality of our work, SYS-ED’s core mainframe curriculum has been submitted for review to the New York State Department of Education - Bureau of Proprietary School
Supervision. Mainframe courseware is being prepared for evaluation as a NRV: Nationally Recognized Vendor in order to address a void in the market by the source software companies
in interrelated and hybrid areas of information technology.
