SAS Technology Update

The ability to check, modify, and create data values has been enhanced:

• There are over 50 new character functions for searching and comparing character strings; this is in addition to concatenating character strings.
• PRX: Perl regular expression functions and CALL routines utilize a modified version of Perl as a pattern-matching language for search-and-replace operations on text.
• The hash object and the hash iterator object are two predefined component objects for use in a DATA step; they provide the capability to store, search and retrieve data based on lookup keys.

SAS 9 provides a new framework which scales to enterprise and is interoperable with different operating environments.

• SAS Enterprise Guide, included as part of the Base SAS on the PC platform, which provides a point and click interface.
• New deployment and configuration processing for systems management, security and change management.
• How to use the role based interfaces.
• Web-based query and reporting.
• How to analyze data with new algorithms and procedures which generate enhanced data visualization.
• How to code programs which will more efficiently process large and complex data sets.
• How to manage data silos and data integration processes.
• New functions (12) for computing descriptive statistics.
• New mathematical functions: probability, quantile and truncation.
• Enhancements and additions to the FREQ, CORR, UNIVARIATE, MEANS and SUMMARY procedures.
