Definition of Performance
The components and types of VSAM datasets.
Identify the performance areas that need to be managed.
The concepts of splits, where to find splits statistics, and what to do with splits.
Create a KSDS and load it with data.
Code a program which will cause splits.
Determine the number of CA and CI splits and undertake the effort to improve its implementation on the existing program.
Tuning at the AMS Define Cluster Level
Examine VSAM usage at the client installation and how it can be improved.
Given case studies with usage statistics, provide estimates on storage, I/O amounts, and memory.

Recognize the difference between allocating a VSAM dataset for CICS and batch.
Create a VSAM KSDS for online processing.
Minimize the number of splits on a KSDS.
Create a KSDS with distributed freespace.
Determine when a dataset should be reorganized.
Given system statistics from a LISTCAT, calculate the VSAM ratios and determine whether a dataset should be reorganized.
