DATES:

CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES:
    1. Accessing Observations
      • Create an index when creating a data file.
      • Create an index for an existing data file.
    2. Combining Data Horizontally
      • Only keep matched observations between two files.
      • Only keep unmatched observations between two files.
      • Use an index to merge a smaller data file with a larger one.
    3. Combining Data Vertically
      • Combine datasets vertically; use the SET dataset statement and list the datasets to be included.
    4. Lookup Tables to Match Data
      • Write a SAS program for retrieving the city and state information from the second dataset which adds this information to the first dataset.
      • Create an output dataset by restructuring the values in a SAS dataset and transposing selected variables into observations.
    5. Sorting SAS Datasets
      • z/OS: Calculate a sort work area based on the keys and the columns of data.
    6. Controlling Data Storage Space
      • Compress and uncompress a SAS datasets.
      • Create a view to prevent users from continually submitting queries and omitting unwanted columns or rows.
    7. Scalable Performance Data Engine
      • Process large datasets by accessing data from multiple physical files into partitions.
    8. Best Practices
      • Given a set of procedures and code, modify the supplied program to execute only the necessary statements.
      • Eliminate unnecessary passes and read and write only essential data.
    9. Updating SAS Datasets
      • Modify SAS datasets in place.
      • Create, use, and report with an audit trail.
