DATES:

HANDS-ON TRAINING:
    1. DB2 and the z/OS Environment
      • The concepts and terminology of DB2: Database Administration.
      • Instructor to provide examples.
    2. Database Structures
      • Examine the concepts and terminology of database structures.
      • Instructor to provide examples.
    3. Physical Database Design
      • Design and implement a system using physical design.
      • Develop a logical design of a system.
      • Develop the appropriate DDL for creating objects which will include views and indexes.
    4. Loading and Managing DB2 Databases
      • Load tables in multiple ways.
      • Load a table using a program and the DB2 LOAD utility.
    5. Table and View design
      • Design tables for performance and integrity.
      • Redesign tables for partitioning, clustering, indexing, column layout, tablespace type, and page.
      • Learn how to improve parallelism.
    6. General Efficiency Techniques
      • Become familiar with the options which are available for tuning a DB2 SQL query including: changing the query, redesigning the database, and changing the application program.
      • Instructor presents examples and different scenarios: checking DB2 statistics, modifying sample SQL statements, and scenarios for changing table designs.
    7. Factors Affecting Performance
      • Examine the cost in terms of maintenance associated with indexes.
      • Evaluate the benefits of a proposed index.
      • Learn how and if a proposed index brings significant relief to a query, then the index can be justified.
      • Examine the trade-offs in query tuning and the impact of business decisions.
      • Analyze an approach where tuning focuses on reducing query I/O.
      • Recognize that a reduction in query I/O does not eliminate all of the I/O; some of the I/O is moved to index maintenance.
      • Instructor presents examples and different scenarios: reducing unnecessary I/O with a new index, index-only processing, and index costs.
    8. When to Tune
      • Develop guidelines for determining when to tune and which components to tune.
      • Instructor presents examples and different scenarios for monitoring DB2 and identifying issues relating to performance.
    9. Recovery and Security
      • Back up and restore a tablespace.
      • Back up a series of tablespaces.
      • Delete the tablespaces and then perform a restoration using logs and backups.
