Mission Statement
Computer Education Techniques, Inc. develops
courseware and training aids for use in its SYS-ED instructor-led course
offerings. The services and courseware products have been developed in response to specific operational objectives and training requirements of
Fortune 1000 companies, government municipalities, healthcare providers,
consulting, software companies, and midsized and small businesses. The full
complement of technologies will be used to provide effective knowledge transfer.
The long-term objective is to apply the classic principles of learning and knowledge transfer in order to meet the standards of the New York State Department of Education. The initial curricula to be submitted are in areas where CETi has a proven expertise and where in our opinion there is minimal or inferior certification standards.
Technology Driven IT Training
Courseware and training aids are a central
component of SYS-ED courses.

Content, examples, diagrams, and workshops are updated to address both the new releases and omissions/errors in the source software company documentation. SYS-ED websites serve as a distribution center for clients to review courseware, common questions, and assess their experience/mastery of the content prior to enrolling in a course. An organization should not enroll an employee in a SYS-ED course without reviewing the information from the appropriate website.
Courseware has been developed by technologist entrepreneurs, consultants out in the field, professional text book authors, and the collective efforts of CETi staff. Our courseware library spans the onset of modern data processing.
Experience and
Expertise
Computer Education Techniques, Inc. was
formed in 1982 and purchased SYS-ED, the training services division of
Integrated Computer Software. SYS-ED’s collective experience with software engineering predates 1982. SYS-ED’s founder, Robert Blumfeld, did
pioneering work with the initial releases of CICS, IBM' s mainstay systems
software, at the New York Times and his association with Ed Yourdon, a contemporary, resulted in a cross fertilization with the new techniques in structured
analysis/design. In the 1970's, Mr. Blumfeld played a major role in the development
and delivery of
instructor-led training at On-line Software International and was co-founder
of Verhoef Information Packages. Several CETi system consultant
instructors/instructors were involved in
first generation coding and debugging of programming languages (COBOL,
Assembler Language, PL/1, FORTRAN, RPG) and IBM systems software (VSAM, IMS, CICS,
and DB2).
We have used each
successive generation of software technology. And equally as important,
categorized and developed content for effective knowledge
transfer. Few software or consulting companies have the library of sample programs, workshops, and training
aids that we do.
Text Book Authors
Computer Education Techniques, Inc. has relationships with leading IT textbook
authors and publishers.

The by product of CETi work with these authors is typically derivative courseware and training aids which reflect the evolving nature of the software industry: co-existence and interoperability with established and new generations of software upgrades, fixes/patches for buggy software, and new products. The ultimate challenge is to transform our courseware library into distance and e-learning products. And of course, to develop new courseware utilizing the full range of technologies which will utilize the full range of technologies to help people learn.
David Silverberg, a Director at SYS-ED, authored an acclaimed DB2 Systems Performance book as part of the Jay Ranade IBM Series, McGraw-Hill, Inc.
David Shapiro, a Director at SYS-ED, has developed and edited courseware for SYS-ED courses in conjunction with the following authors:
In their 18 years together, Silverberg and Shapiro have collaborated on well over 600 courseware products and training aids.
Each also selectively accepts and develops courseware projects on their own.
SYS-ED Websites
SYS-ED websites are developed in response to
requests by client organizations and organized to reflect well defined
operational requirements:

Software Companies
Computer Education Techniques, Inc. avails itself of the software and related
documentation available in the public domain. We analyze and interpret this information
and develop our own examples and workshops. Based upon requests from our client
base, we develop course workbooks and training aids.
Several CETi consultants have relationships with software companies.
Certification
Standards
Computer Education Techniques, Inc. keeps abreast of the latest releases of
software and requires its consultants to pass vendor certification examinations.
CETi Consulting
Computer Education Techniques, Inc. selectively accepts consulting assignments.
This affords us the opportunity to use the software and examine and test the assumptions
in the vendor provided documentation. Over the years, we have developed
expertise in a variety of industries and applications. Each assignment typically
uncovers errors/omissions in the vendor documentation and new and better ways of
developing/debugging code and designing systems. This also applies to performance
optimization.
Consulting
Companies
Computer Education Techniques, Inc. selectively takes on subcontract assignments
and has joint ventures with consulting companies.
